Nothing much happening here in Auckland. School is ongoing as usual and CNY passed by without the usual firecrackers and angpaos... there was however a Chinese New Year Festival organized by the chinese community here. This is the closest you can get to an actual CNY mood here in nz. It seemed like the whole chinese population in Auckland had come for the festival, but quite a few Kiwis also turned up there, mainly to experience the atmosphere of the festival.

it was seriously crowded...
The festival basically consists of stalls selling various asian cuisines crafts. There was also a culture show. Most of the it involved senior "uncles & aunties" singing mostly oldies songs and some of the kiwi crowd even volunteered to join in so more often than not it turned into a part-karaoke thing. There were even some stores that sold chinese movies.

Plenty of cheongsams were on sale.

Kinda reminds me of Kenyalang back home..

An actual ice-cream van! =D

The usual CNY decorations on sale
There was even a Warong Malaysia stall which sold lots of M'sian specialties (eg. mee goreng and such..)
All the "gerai"s and such
Kiwis went all sakai-taking-pics for this

Here are some pics of my new school. It has almost everything from a hostel for international students to its own swimming centre. The school has its assembly on Fridays and here they have the school orchestra play the school song. Pretty cool huh? Subjects that we do for the year can be chosen whether its an arts or science subject and we are required to choose only 5 core ones.
For students studying agriculture here in the school, there is even a farm right next to the school grounds where they have their usual classes so if your classroom is near the farm you will usually here the occasional moo-ing..

School pitch and Grandstand
